A clerk of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) assigned to the airport and his live-in partner/accomplice, a defeated mayoralty candidate were caught off-guard by PDEA agents following an undercover drug entrapment inside Room 406 of Sir Williams Hotel in Timog, Quezon City past midnight of February 6, 2011.
PDEA Director General/Undersecretary JOSE S. GUTIERREZ, JR. lauded the operatives of PDEA Metro Manila Regional Office (MMRO) headed by Regional Director, Wilkins M. Villanueva and PDEA Regional Office 4A, under the direct supervision of Director Jeffrey A. Bangsa for the successful anti-drug operation that led to the arrest of suspects, PETRONILO ABUYEN JR. y MACAWILE alias “Jessie Abuyong”, a customs employee assigned at the Customs Bonded Warehouse in NAIA Terminal 1 and MARIA LOREJAS y ESPANZO, who ran but lost in the May 2010 local election in the town of Mahaplang, Leyte. Both are residents of Kawit, Cavite.
Confiscated from their immediate possession and control were five (5) bricks of suspected high-grade cocaine weighing roughly five (5) kilograms (with an estimated street value of a whopping Php 25 Million) along with Php 20,000 worth of boodle money and one (1) unit of white Isuzu Crosswind with plate no. XJF-862.
Cases for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) in relation to Section 26 (b) (Conspiracy to Sell) under Article II of RA 9165 were filed against the suspects.
The PDEA Chief said, “I have a strong certainty that the recovered pieces of drug evidence are part of the cocaine bricks salvaged from the coastlines of Eastern Samar. It is an awful shame that the involvement of a public servant and an office-seeker in this case illustrates the idiosyncrasy of the circumstance whereby the trustee cannot be trusted”.-30- Derrick Arnold Carreon, PIO-PDEA
